What: A new public space

During 10 days, around 20 people met in Lisbon to design and build a new public space, taking inspiration from the environment and encounters.

The site of project was an old street market located in between two quarter: Liberdade and Serafina. At the moment, this space is abandoned, without really recognize function and, the position don’t help to its regeneration because the two quarters are not so friendly.

So, the principal idea was to project a new receptive space with different functions for different users, helping the local people to have a common place where meet each other.

After having received various impressions and suggestions from the locals, we projected, in the same time, a stage for the publics events with his audience, a space for the young people play and stay together and another with a table and two benches for the oldest meet and play cards. Definitely, an intergenerational place where to enjoy the space open air.

Trying with a rope the future shape of the our volume

The great challenge was being able to detach from the edges, and concentrate all at the center of the platform, connoted without identity.

At beginning using the body to define the project, we continue like in a big Tangram, started to play with triangles creating three different areas connected by a intern open path having some windows to see what’s happening inside the spaces.

It was the result….

…and it was the day of the inauguration.

The built structure was inaugurated with a festival (Di)fusão that was the occasion to immediately see the spaces working.
